The opening paragraph of the Brittany Tourism Office website states that "Brittany enjoys many windy days..." While the wind cannot be disputed, its enjoyment most certainly can. The Atlantic gusts definitely do not overlook the town of Lannion. The mailbox of Rue des Chapeliers seems especially well-placed to capture the howling torrents funnelling through its namesake thoroughfare. Wind is the order of the day - day in and day out. It was on such a day, that I made my way to post a particular postcard (whose contents were largely devoted to discussing these very climactic conditions). Mid-posting-process, a particularly tenacious gust tore the card straight out of my hand. It pirouetted through the air before suddenly veering almost vertically upwards and landing on the roof of the neighbourhing building. I stared in shock..I'm recounting this, only as a useful warning and to offer a piece of sage advice: if you feel obliged to use Lannion's primary 'bote lettre', I suggest adding substantial extra weight to all and any post (stones, lead weights, or cans of conserve would easily do the trick). This will add some postage cost, but should handily prevent any wind mishap. Plus, receiving a can of anchovies in the mail - or any canned seafood for that matter - is always a special treat.
